Save the design in the appropriate format for your machine.

Step 2. Cutting
Using the EZ Circle Cut tool, cut three 9” circles from the blue Moda fabric. Cut three 15” squares from the brown floral print. From the blue Moda fabric, cut 2 ½” wide bias strips that will be used as the binding. The backing and batting will be cut after the runner is assembled.

Step 3. Embroidery
Hoop the Baby Lock Tear-Away stabilizer and spray with the temporary spray adhesive. Fold each of the blue circles into quarters and finger press. Use the fold lines to determine the center of the circle and place it in the hoop, aligning the fold lines with the center of the hoop. Finger press the blue circle fabric onto the sticky stabilizer.

Turn the machine on and retrieve the Sashiko design. Position the needle over the center of the hoop and embroider the design. The two colors that were used in the sample are dark brown and light brown. Embroider the design on all three of the fabric circles.

Step 4. Finishing the Table Runner
Gently tear away the stabilizer from the back of the embroidered circles and press. Fold each of the 15” brown print squares into quarters to determine the center and finger press. Center the embroidered Sashiko circles in the center of each of the brown print squares. Lightly spray the back of the embroidered blue circles using the temporary spray adhesive and finger press into position.

Using the gold bias tape, position the tape over the edge of each of the circles and iron in place with a mini iron.

Thread the machine with a twin needle and two spools of gold thread. Top-stitch the bias tape around each of the circles units.

Lay each of the squares on a flat surface and join the sections together by fusing the gold bias tape to the top side of each seam. Using the twin needle, topstitch the bias tape to the table runner.

Round off each of the four corners with EZ Circle Cut.

Cut the brown Moda fabric and the batting 2” larger than the top section. Spray both sides of the batting with temporary spray adhesive. Sandwich the layers by placing the brown Moda fabric right side down on a flat surface, then the batting and finally, the embroidered section, right side up.

Set the machine for quilting and stipple the layers together. Trim the edges of the runner. Piece the bias strips to make one continuous length. Fold the strip in half lengthwise with wrong edges together and press. Fold one end inward ¼” and press. Pin the bias to the back side of the table runner and stitch using a ¼” seam allowance. Start sewing 4” away from the beginning of the bias strip. When you get close to the beginning of the bias strip, cut the end and tuck the inside the start of the bias strip. Continue to sew the bias strip to the table topper. Turn the bias to the front and top-stitch close to the edge with the edge joining foot.
